Spectacular cliffs and so much more

In the lower gorge the towering cliffs and Lion Rock form a backdrop to many attractions.  Venture into Gough’s Cave and Cox’s Cave with their dramatic rock formations, learn how they were created in the Museum of Prehistory.  Climb the 271 steps of Jacob’s Ladder for a view over Cheddar from the Lookout Tower.

Cheddar Cheese has been made in Cheddar for at least a thousand years.  You can watch the process here in the gorge and sample Cheddar which has been matured in the caves.  For other local fare you’ll find Somerset cider, Cheddar ales and delicious cream teas in the many eating places in the gorge.

Stroll beside the Cheddar Yeo, the river that created the gorge in the first place and browse the many quirky gift shops in the lower gorge.
